About Me
I'm Heather, and I have OCD.
I was around 15 when I figured out what was going on. I'd repeat things over and over until they felt right, and I could sit in the same spot for an hour trying to prove a thought didn't mean anything about me.
What changed things for me was learning to trust myself while the doubt was still there. I practiced it every day, and most days I was bad at it. It still got easier.
Why I started OCD Peace Project
I wanted the stuff I couldn't find back then. Most of what I read was either written for clinicians or so upbeat it made me feel like I was failing. I wanted someone to just say, yeah, this is awful, here's what to try at 2 a.m. when your brain won't let go.
That's what I write about on the blog, and it's why I make the printables and the 30-day journal. They're small, practical things for the hard moments.
A couple of honest notes
I'm not a therapist, and nothing here takes the place of treatment. If you're looking for help, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and I-CBT (inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy) both have good research behind them for OCD, and the IOCDF keeps a directory of specialists.
